A taste of Scotland raises £1,400 for ACTnow Church Tower Appeal

A Burns Night celebration in Amberley raised almost £1,400 for the ACTnow Church Tower Appeal on 26 January.  Over 60 people tucked into the traditional meal of haggis, neeps and tatties in the Church Hall.  The haggis was addressed by our resident Scot, Ian Galbraith, and there was a toast "To the Lassies" by Jay Simpson, with a response by Valerie Galbraith.

Afterwards there was musical entertainment, introduced by Tony Hancock, better known for his organ recitals at St Peter's Church, Parham, but on this occasion playing the piano, and a quartet of singers - Averil Sessions, Ginny Airey, Richard Robinson and Jeff Feakins - who provided a lively and polished performance of Scots songs.  The audience joined in several encores, the evening concluding with Auld Lang Syne.

A Sussex Christmas

We were delighted to welcome Cotillion back on 8 December, who provided once more a very enjoyable evening, with their performance of A Sussex Christmas – songs, poetry and readings in the church hall.

Many thanks to everyone who attended.  We raised £240 for ACTnow- Amberley Church Tower Appeal.

Grant from Headley Trust

We are delighted to have been awarded a grant of £5,000 from the Headley Trust, towards
the major repairs to the tower fabric including timber and masonry repair, reopening of sealed windows and repair of the roof.  With recent income from events and donations, this takes us to over £62,000 raised so far toward our target.

Wagner, Hitler and the Jews

Many thanks to Michael Hartnall for his extremely entertaining and informative talk on Wagner, Hitler and the Jews on 10 November.  It was a highly professional presentation using still images, film and high quality sound.   We were privileged to have such a knowledgeable speaker help us with our ACTnow–Amberley Church Tower appeal.

A huge thanks also to Lillis and David Lyon for providing, serving and butlering a delicious supper afterwards.

£780 was raised for our appeal, so again thanks to everyone who supported us.
